Conference at Twickenham

Barclaycard was introduced as the UK’s first credit card in 1966. Since then, the company has evolved through contactless technology and mobile payments – remaining one of the largest global payment businesses.

As part of the company’s global marketing conference, Toolshed was contacted to assist with the production management, venue, CAD drawings, fabrication and supply of all materials, technical production and AV and technical crew.

It was decided that a venue close to the Barclays headquarters in Canary Wharf, London would be beneficial for the delegates attending. With operatives also coming from some of the 40 countries that Barclaycard serves, London also presented itself as the ideal location for transport links.

Twickenham Stadium’s various conference rooms gave us the opportunity to choose one that fitted with the 80 delegates and what Barclaycard was trying to achieve. The facilities are unique and were flexible enough so that we could put our own stamp on the venue.

The room was completely overhauled by our team. The design included a central X-shaped stage surrounded by special armchair seating for the delegates. This was done so that all four corners of the X had a good view of the speakers and could easily engage.

3D projection screens were installed in the four corners of the room. Each attendee was given a pair of 3D glasses upon arrival and the presentations incorporated this technology. We also made sure we had some fun with the technology. For example, the opening session was literally a roller coaster ride, where the delegates felt all the vibration (remember, special armchairs) and noise of the real thing through the installation of a powerful sound system.
