Promoting wellbeing at your corporate events

Wellbeing, mindfulness and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle have come to the fore in recent years, not only in terms of how we spend our leisure time but also how we operate in the workplace.

With increased awareness of mental health issues – and the recognition that one in four of us will experience some form of mental ill health during our lives – such a focus on promoting wellbeing has never been more pertinent in our busy, noisy, bustling world.

Nurturing a healthy mind and body breeds positivity, creativity and productivity – so why not generate happy, healthy energy by incorporating wellness elements into your next event?

Here are a few things you can try to engender a feel-good vibe at your event, whether a trade show, business conference or corporate celebration.

Make time
Rather than a jam-packed schedule of speakers, demonstrations and activities, make sure you factor in time for people to relax, reflect and digest what they have learned with plenty of breaks and rest areas.

Get moving
To counter the effects of standing or sitting for long periods, intersperse the day’s itinerary with spells of interactive physical activities such as team-building games or fun fitness challenges.

Boost energy
Offer healthy refreshments with lots of vitamin and mineral-packed fruit and vegetables, low-fat protein sources such as pulses, plus a variety of fruit juices and plenty of water readily available to keep your attendees’ minds and bodies energised.

Add value
You could team up with local health agencies to set up stations offering free blood pressure checks and cholesterol tests, plus kiosks providing information and advice on leading a healthier lifestyle.

 Calm the mind
Invite a speaker to inspire your guests with tips on mindfulness techniques, managing stress and making the most of every day.

Appeal to the senses
Scents, sounds and visual stimulation have a huge impact on our emotional and mental state. So consider using different coloured décor, various types of music and a range of essential oil vaporisers to produce a particular ambience in different zones.

Relax the body
Run a yoga or tai chi session during breaks or to round off the day, to release tension and stretch tired muscles.

However you choose to pitch your event, feeding the mind, body and soul of your attendees with an emphasis on wellbeing will help them better absorb the information, messages and potential calls to action you are aiming to share.
